Hello,
I have joined this great site only last week. And I enjoy what's going on here. However I have noticed that pics uploaded here are not protected against download. I mean everybody visiting this site can download images. This may be changed, I hope soonest, at least I wish to authorize who may download pics from my galleries. Concerning the Marketplace this situation must be adopted, otherwise I do not believe that any artist will sell a piece of her/his art offered here.

There is no way to prevent image download, which is why we make use of watermarks. If a person can see an image on their screen, they can easily grab it by doing a screen capture. If you're really that worried I would suggest using your own watermarks that cover the main portion of your image - preferably in some subtle, barely visible way. However I think you'd be shooting yourself in the foot to do so, as it makes it almost impossible for anyone to enjoy viewing your artwork, which makes it very unlikely they'll want to buy it or continue browsing your gallery. I personally would never nominate or feature an image with a watermark in the middle of it because it just looks terrible and over-commercialized.

Justin, I agree with you in parts of what you were saying (tech. features and so on). However I know plenty of social networks (sorry for the comparision), where pic downloads are tech wise disabeld. There are IT-solutions in place and ready to be installedon this great site as well...
My major concern and question was and is...How can a marketplace work if anybody can take away pics for free? The site and artists shall benefit in an economic view. But shall this be the case if the artwork here is not download protected?
I raise the question to the community: Which artist has sold a piece up to now?

I am prepared and ready to join the marketplace, even it's only a trial...

As Justin said, if an image is on the screen, people will be able capture it. There is no way around it even with downloading disabled. Social networks have no solution for it either no matter what you believe. Even with IT solutions a person could use a camera to get a screen shot if the usual keyboard screenshot doesn't work.

Anyway, to bring you comfort, not many people have commercial use for low resolution images. I am the sort of debased individual (artist) that uses others images from the net for my own guilty pleasure, and kudos to eroticartists.org because I don't take images from this site because of the preview format. Also if you want to sell without people taking a sample of your work, rent some gallery space in your town.

BTW, if anyone wants to see my collage pieces which were compiled from images found on the net, please view my gallery.
