Lou Gatling is a self taught artist. Lou began painting in oil paint in June of 1989 and he began also to expand into watercolors and pastels. For the next few years Lou worked in these mediums and read and studied this art form. In December of 1996 Lou got a gift of 25 lbs. of water clay. At the time he was studying the female nude figure, so he began sculpting small nudes, and found his true medium in water clay. He has gone on to expand his knowledge and technique of water clay figure sculpting. Soon adding mold making and plaster casting to his knowledge base. Over the years Lou has won many local awards for his many paintings and sculptures. In 2002 Lou began teaching a water clay sculpture workshop for The Art Association of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
