From 1956 - ‘62 Anthony Christian studied by copying in the National Gallery, in London. During those years he found himself strongly repulsed by so many works of violence, from crucifixions to beheadings. He also came to realize that the Gallery, like the other major museums of the world, was padded out with relatively mediocre works, which for credibility all hung on the backs of the few great ones. He thought how wonderful it would be if a Museum existed in which there was nothing but the greatest masterpieces and all without the terrible violence.
Many years later from 1968 - 1988, he studied
erotic art through probably the largest collection in the world, housed in Paris and comprising over 1 million pieces from the 14th Century to date. During that time he came to love the works so much it became his life’s ambition to create paintings that might cause the genre of
erotic Art to be accepted as completely as Still Life or Landscape.
